Funeral services for George W. Lande of Canton, a former resident of Eagle Township, were held Saturday afternoon at the Rock River Lutheran church with Rev. G. Groneseth of Hudson in charge. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery beside the remains of his son.

George W. Lande was born on the Island of Stift, Norway, Feb. 2, 1857, and received his early education at that place. In 1866 he together with nearly 300 of his countrymen left the city of Bergen and came to America, the journey requiring five weeks. He settled with his parents on a farm near Nevada, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood. On Feb. 2, 1887, he was united in marriage with Miss Carrie Richardson of Des Moines. The happy young couple came to Sioux county and located on a farm in Eagle township. One son, John Lande, came to bless this union but he passed away eleven years ago. For nearly 30 years Mr. & Mrs. Lande made their home on their farm in Eagle township, tilling the soil, and undergoing the hardships incident to pioneer life. In the year 1914 they disposed of the farm stock and moved to Ireton where they lived until 1917 when they moved to Canton where they have since made their home. Mr. Lande was of a quiet and modest disposition. He was a true Christian and one of the founders of the Rock River Lutheran church which has served the community for over forty years. Through his years of honest toil he secured large land holdings and to keep his various farms neat and tidy was one of his greatest desires. He is survived by his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Miss Lena Lande and Albert Lande and children of Slater, Iowa, George Baron and R. Brenderland of Huxley, Iowa, Mrs. Eli Gunderson of Sioux Falls, Mrs. T. Johnson and children of Hudson, Mr. & Mrs. John Hemmingson of Davis, S.D., and Mrs. W. Ploster and children of Clark, S.D.
