Adam Thomas Mackie, son of Mr. & Mrs. George Mackie, was born in Winterburn, Ontario, Canada, the 25th of May, 1866.
He had six brothers - John, George, Jim, Henry, Edwin and Edward, and three sisters - Margaret, Mary and Jane, five of whom preceded him in death. The surviving brothers are: Jim of Mexico, Missouri; Henry of Traer, Iowa; and twin brothers, Edwin and Edward of Newark, New Jersey.
He was baptized in infancy and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of which he was a faithful attendant in his younger days.
When in manhood, Henry Tom and Jim decided to go west to look for work. They located at Hull where latter he met Ella Ferry and was married, and then moved to Carson, Iowa.
Two daughters - Florence (Mrs. R. J. Snow) of Atlanta, Georgia (deceased) and Maybelle (Mrs. B. A. Saeger) of Alvord - were born to this union.
From Carson, Mr. & Mrs. Mackie moved to Hull, Iowa, and later Mr. Mackie became manager of the grain company at Jackson, Nebraska. After a few years they moved back to Hull where he was manager of the Hunting Elevator for over thirty years. A year or two afterwards he was employed as foreman of one of the bridge crews for Sioux County.
For the past four years he made his home at Alvord with his daughter.
Ill health finally began to take hold and after considerable medical treatment both at Alvord and Iowa City, he was taken to the Dr. John De Bey hospital at Orange City, December 29, where he remained a patient until his death on Tuesday, February 15.
One daughter, Mrs. B. A. Saeger, and one grandchild, June Saeger, survive him.
