Gladys M. Larson, 96, of Harlan, IA, formerly of Hawarden, died Friday, January 1, 1999 at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.
Funeral services were held Wednesday January 6 at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Andrew Chako and Dr. David Erickson officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation was held Tuesday with the family present from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M., at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mrs. Larson was born August 21, 1902 near Ireton the daughter of Seth and Hannah (Collier) Heumphreus. She grew up in Page County in southwestern Iowa and graduated from the Amity High School in College Springs in 1921. She moved to the Hawarden area in 1922 and helped in the Hawarden Hospital while training to become a nurse.
Gladys married Walter Larsen on January 23, 1924 at the Methodist Parsonage in Hawarden. She was a housewife, worked as a supervisor for Otis Radio Factory for several years and was later a Fuller Brush Distributor.
Walter died April 17, 1971. Gladys had made her home in Harlan since April of 1997. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving relatives include two grandsons, Dr. David W. Erickson of Harland and Daniel K. Erickson and his wife Pam of Conifer, Colorado; and three great grandchildren, Christina J., Jeremy D., and Kaylee L. Erickson all of Lincoln, NE, nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Lola Jean Morton; granddaughter, Margaret Jean Erickson; and her brothers and sisters.
