John Umhoefer, an old citizen of this county and one of the most prominent men of Cherokee, died suddenly at Sioux City on the 13th inst. He was sent as a delegate to the democratic state convention at Council Bluffs, and when he arrived at Sioux City on his way home, his condition was such that he could not be removed to a hospital, so he was taken to the depot hotel. His wife was telegraphed for and arrived that evening. His condition then, was much worse and he barely recognized her and he died at 8 o'clock in the morning. the deceased was a brother of Mrs. John Ernster of this city. His remains were interred in the Catholic cemtery at Cherokee Monday last followed to his last resting place by an immense concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends.
