Nick Mantel, 53, a prominent farmer of this vicinity passed away at the Grossman Hospital Friday, May 27, at 7:15 in the evening. Mr. Mantel had been in apparent good health until Sunday, May 22, when he suffered a stroke. On Wednesday he suffered another stroke from which he did not rally. Mr. Mantel was born on July 10, 1895 on a farm north of Orange City the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Mantel, and war reared in this vicinity. He was married to Minnie De Roo of Orange City on April 27, 1921. To them three children were born: Elizabeth - Mrs. Bert Ver Doorn of Sheldon; Wilmina and Jacob at home. Surviving besided his widow and children are 4 sisters, Kate - Mrs. Peter Vander Zwaag and Ella - Mrs. Andrew Vander Griend of Orange City; Dora - Mrs. Henry De Haan of Hospers; Minnie - Mrs. Henry Huisman of Alton, and one brother, Cornie Mantel of Orange City. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home and at the First. Ref. Church of Orange City with Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment was made in Orange City cemetery. The Van Etten Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
