Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Jennie Kooima, 95 of Rock Valley, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Whispering Heights. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Thursday at First Reformed Church. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday with family present 6:30-8 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Jennie was born January 30, 1915 at Doon, IA, daughter of Gerrit and Jessie (Roetman) Lems. She had worked at Doorn Paint Store before she married Paul Kooima on October 27, 1936 at Rock Valley. Together they farm south of Doon then north of Doon beginning in 1942. They retired from farming and moved to Rock Valley where Jennie worked for the Valley Bakery and was a member of RV Senior Citizens and helped them bake cookies, and was an active member of First Reformed Church. At home, she enjoyed her large garden and flower beds, sewing, knitting, hardanger, and brading rugs. Paul died on March 9, 1996 and Jennie moved to Whispering Heights in 2007 where she received wonderful care.

Surviving relatives include 2 sons, Ken A. (Eileen) Kooima of Rock Valley, Ron (Wanda) Kooima of Sheldon, IA; daughter, Wanda (Jim) Riley of Tucson, AZ; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Art Kooima of Rock Valley, Ted Ribbens of Sioux Center, IA; sisters-in-law, Sue Kooima, Elsie Kooima, and Gertrude Rozeboom all of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband; stillborn son and daughter; grandson, Odean Niemeyer; granddaughter, Kristen Kooima; brothers, Paul and Lambert Lems; sister, Marie Hoogendoorn; 12 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws.
