Obituary: Charles William Sederstrom "Chuck" died Saturday morning on June 5th at Auburn Manor in Chaska, Minnesota. Chuck had been in a comatose state since the age of 29 when on January of 1991 he fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his car. Chuck never regained consciousness after the accident and remained in a coma for 19-1/2 years.
Chuck was born June 9, 1960, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Eugene ‘Swede’ and Aida Sederstrom. He spent most of his growing up years in the Sioux Falls and Hawarden, IA area.
At 5’6" tall and weighting 145lbs; Chuck was pound-for-pound one of the toughest men around, and his personality and self-confidence naturally attracted people to him.
For fun Chuck was a member of the PRCA (Pro Rodeo Championship Association) and rode bulls in competition rodeos around the Midwest, Texas, and Oklahoma. Chuck’s work life involved hanging red iron steel erecting steel buildings and operating "Swedes Bar" in Hawarden, Iowa.
On his spare time Chuck would break or train horses for friends and others. In fact three day’s after his first bull ride in which he broke two ribs; he got onto a horse and was training it to obey his commands. Chuck showed no fear when it came to what ever challenge that came across his path.
Family and friends who knew Chuck remembered him as one who loved horses, pushed himself to the limit, and was filled with life. One could say he lived more in his first 29 years of life than most people do in their entire lives. He was loved and will be deeply missed!
Chuck is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Warrensburg, MO), granddaughter, Lillianna Rose (Warrensburg, MO), and sons, Cody (Hawarden, IA) and Justin (Hawarden, IA); stepmother, Virginia (Hawarden, IA); brothers: Steve (York, PA), Gene (Victoria, BC), David Robert ‘Bob’ McCardle (St. Louis, MO); and sister, Marie McCardle (Chaska, MN). Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Eugene ‘Swede’ and Aida Sederstrom (Hawarden, IA).
Graveside inurnment service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.
