John Maassen, Sr. passed away Sunday Dec. 27 at the home of his son Henry at Sheldon, at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 23 days.

He was born May 4, 1849, in Bunnink, Netherlands. On July 27, 1887 he married Geritze Vander Weerd who preceded him in death Oct. 12, 1942.

On April 9, 1903 they left Utrecht, Netherlands for the United States and since that time have resided near Maurice.

Left to mourn his death are four children namely: Herman of North Holland, Mich.; Nellie, Mrs. A. Sneller of Sioux Center; Teunis of Maurice and Henry of Sheldon, also 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1 o'clock in the Teunis Maassen home and at 1:30 in the First Ref. Church.
