Mary, the little year and a half old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Mantle, residing a few miles southwest of Ireton, died suddenly Saturday from strychnine poisioning. Her 14 year old brother, Jacob Mantle, Jr., some time ago submitted to an operation at the Hawarden hospital and was recently brought home from the hospital where he is still under a physician's care. Some tablets containing strychnine and other drugs had been left in a small box on a stand at the boy's bedside and in some manner the baby got hold of this box and ate ten or twelve of the tablets. She was almost immediately seized with convulsions and died before a physician could arrive. Besides the grief stricken parents she is survived by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Ireton, conducted by Rev. Wm. Terpsma, pastor of the Christian Reformed Church, and the little form was tenderly laid to rest in the Ireton cemetery. Mr. & Mrs. Mantle and family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their sad loss.
