Delmer Peters age 80 of George, IA died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Sheldon, IA.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 15th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church at George, IA with Rev. Paul Fischer, officiating.
Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 14th from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
Delmer Peters was born August 13, 1929, in George, Iowa, the son of Willie and Dora (Janssen) Peters. Delmer attended the George Public School and graduated from high school in 1948. He married Carol Cramer on August 15, 1950, at Kamrar Presbyterian Church, Kamrar, Iowa. The couple lived in George until April 2009 when they moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa. In his early years, Delmer worked for Siebring Manufacturing and Swalve Produce of George, Iowa. He later had his own produce business and enjoyed driving a bus route for the George Public School. He finished his working years at Visser Hardware Store where he continued to enjoy working with people. He retired in 1992. Delmer was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. He enjoyed all sports throughout his entire life. He loved to bowl and golf and was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and many of his trips included his grandchildren. In their retirement years, Delmer and Carol enjoyed camping at Lake Okoboji and spending winters in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Carol, of Sheldon, Iowa; a daughter Jan and her husband Roger Wilcox of Waverly, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Beau Wells and wife Gina of Boyden, Iowa; Adam, Aaron, and Abby Wilcox of Waverly, Iowa; and great granddaughters Emma and Brenna Wells of Boyden, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Susan Wells; and three brothers, Williard, Weldon, and Everon (Bud).
