Morrie Black of Ireton Dies at Hawarden Hospital

Levi M."Morrie" Black,80, died Wednesday March 9, at the Hawarden hospital after suffering a stroke. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m.at the Ireton Methodist church. Rev. Fritz Springis officiated,assisted by Rev. Chester Custer of the Hawarden Methodist church.

Casket bearers were grandsons,David Herwynen,Norman Siders,Wendel Hruse,Donald Coats,Stanley and Lyle Venard. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Black was born October 13, 1879 near Ireon. He spent his entire life in and around Ireton,except for a few years at Humboldt, SD. He married Mrs. Elizabeth nee Chinery Coats in 1906, who died in 1954. The family moved to Ireton in 1928, where he resided until his death.He was custodian of the Ireton public school nearly 15 years

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs.Clayton Cridlebaugh (Adelia)of White Bear, Minn.,Mrs. Raymond Siders (Lulu)and Mrs. Richard Herwynen (Mildred) of Ireton, Mrs.Wayne Nenard (Pearl) of Hawarden; one stepson Lester Coats of Ireton; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were, Mr.and Mrs.Clayton Cridlebaugh, Wendel and Darol of White Bear, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sider and son of Modale, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Venard and daughter of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Stanley Venard and family of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. John Baack of Le Mars, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Venard of Hawarden, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kyper of Spirt Lake, Mrs. Genevieve Meyer of Orange City, Merle Simons, Steven Chenhall, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Karr and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Atwood of Le Mars and friends from Hawarden and Craig
