Former Resident, Darold Powell, Dies At Age 51

Funeral services for Darold Powell, 51, former Hawarden resident who died unexpectedly at his home at Ramona, S.D., Tuesday July 26, were held the following Thursday at St. John's Lutheran church at Madison, S.D.

Mr. Powell was born at Canton, S.D., and grew to manhood: in the Hawarden vicinity. He resided here until his marriage in 1940 to Sophie Hein in Hawarden. They moved to South Dakota, farming in the Madison vicinity.

He is survived by the widow; a son, Stanley of Viborg, S.D., two sisters, Dorothy Sparks and Hazel Gerber; his step-father, Ralph Kurvink; a half brother, Francis Kurvink, and three sisters, Val jean Bellewood, Marian Bubs and Donna Switzer, all of Los Angeles.
