Last Rites Held Saturday For Ferdinand Gaul

Funeral services for Ferdinand Gaul, 66, Longtime Hawarden resident, who died Wednesday of last week following a long illness were held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Msgr. Zeno Reising of Alton offered the requiem mass. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery here under the direction of the Barnard-Dow Funeral Home.

Casket bearers were Vernon Knight, George Dykstra, Jack McManaman, Peer Fath, Ted Burnight, and Walter Utesch.

The rosary was recited at the Barnard-Dow Funeral home at 8 o'clock Friday evening.

Mr. Gaul was born November 9, 1899, at Alton. He married Anna Marx at Granville November 22, 1921.

He was a member of St. Mary's parish. He formerly had been custodian at West Sioux Community high school.

Mr. Gaul was preceded in death by two sons, Francis, who drowned in 1936, and Cyril at Glen Elder, Kansas, June 17, 1965.

Survivors include the widow; five sons, Charles of Colorado Springs, Colo., Milo of St. Paul, Minn.. Ray of Laurens, and Robert and James, both of Hawarden; three daughters. Mrs. Frank (Mary Ann) Andriessen and Mrs. LeRoy (Lois) Heeren, both of Hawarden, and Mrs. R. Perry (Bernice) Bader of Omaha; five brothers, Martin of Le Mars, Fred of South Sioux City, Nick of Alton, and John and Peter, both of Granville; two sisters, Mrs. Emil Hansen of Le mars and Mrs. Rose Croat of Worthington, Minn., and 21 grandchildren.
