Services Held for Fred Panska

Funeral services for Fred Panska, 83, former long time Hawarden resident and originator of the Panska Nursing hone here, who died Thursday in a Greer, Idaho, nursing home, were held Monday Orofino, Idaho, with burial there.

Mr. and Mrs. Panska established the Panska Nursing home in Hawarden in 1950. They had purchased what was known as the Calliope school in 1947 and converted it into an apartment house and operated it until 1950 along with a school of music in which she taught accordion and guitar.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mapes purchased the Nursing home in June, 1957, and the. Panska went to McMinnville, Ore. to operate their new nursing home which they had purchased earlier. They sold that home in 1962.

In 1964 she suffered a stroke and they moved into a nursing home at Greer, Idaho, this time as patients.

Born April 5, 1882, in Canada, Mr. Panska became an ordained Pentecostal Minister. He served as a traveling minister in Canada, North Dakota and Minnesota prior to coming to Hawarden in 1947.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ordean, in St. Paul three years ago.

Survivors include the widow, Florence, and several brothers and sisters, none of whom reside in this area.
