Last Rites For Mrs.Velgersdyk

Funeral services for Mrs.Nick Velgersdyk were held in Trinity Lutheran church Saturday with O.F. Pittack conducting the services. Interment was made in Richland cemetery at Inwood,Iowa, with Barnard Funeral home in charge. The committal service was conducted by Rev. Ervin Schemmel of Craig.

Minnie Claussen, daughter of Hans Claussen and Annie, nee Jensen, was born in Lyon county,Iowa, May 2 1892, and at the age of 7 became a memver of the Lutheran church through the sacrament of holy baptism, administered in Sioux county by Rev. Gilllman pastor of Peace Lutheran church of Sioux Center. She spent the days of her childhood and youth near Inwood. On August 27, 1918 she married Nick Velgersdyk at Rock Valley with John W. Douman performing the ceremony,

The first 12 years of her marriage were spent on several farms around Inwood and Rock Valley. From 1930 to 1935 she lived at Rock Valley and in 1935 she moved to Hawarden, where she also began to attend the services of the local Lutheran congregation.

Mrs. Velgersdyk had been failing in health for a number of years and since last Thanksgiving, she had been bedfast, first in the home of her daughter and then, in the last 12 days in the local hospital where she died early Thursday morning.Preceding her death were two sons Clarence and Eldon, her parents and one sister Lena.

Survivors include the widower; four daughters, Gladys Edmund, Margy Abbott, Myva Larson, Donna Obbink, and nine grandchildren all of Hawarden; two brothers, Alfred Claussen of Rock Valley and John Claussen of Alvord, and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Schroeder of Wadena, Minn. Miss Dora Claussen of Alvord and Mrs.Emma Kock of Inwood.
