Very impressive Memorial Services were held on Thursday afternoon at l o'clock in the First Reformed Church of Hospers for Cornie VanVeldhuizen, Seaman First Class U.S.N.R., who lost his life in the Pacific as the result of an accident on April 28th. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. J. H. Geerlings of the Christian Reformed church assisted by Rev. G. Docter and Rev. Henry Eggink. A trio by the Vander Maaten sisters, also a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jacobsma. As America was sung the gold star was placed on the Service Flag, and at the second stanza the parents were presented the American flag by the commander of the Hospers American Legion, Mr. John Block. The local American Legion were assisted by Legion members from Granville and Sheldon, also a few Auxiliary members from Granville accompanied the local Legion Auxiliary. Cornie leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Van Veldhuizen, two brothers, Pvt. Gilbert Van Veldhuizen of Camp Gruber who was home to attend the serices and Eddie in the Pacific area; three sisters, Nellie (Mrs. Donald Den Hartog), Cornelia and Bertha all at home. The family have the sympathy of all in their loss.
