Leroy James was the son of James and Hattie (Kreykes) Woudstra. He was raised at Orange City, where he attended the Orange City Christian School. He also attended Western Christian High School in Hull. On April 25, 1951, he married Vernell P. Zeilenga at Wichert, Illinois. They made their home in Orange City, where "Lee" was a partner in Woudstra’s Meat Market with his father, "Jim," and brother, "Al." He was a member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. He was previously a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where he served as superintendent of the Sunday School and as elder on the consistory.
Mr. Woudstra was an active supporter of Christian education, serving as president of the boards of directors of the Orange City Christian School and Unity Christian High School in Orange City.
He was also active in several community organizations providing leadership in the Orange City Chamber of Commerce, the Orange City City Council, the Orange City Lions Club, the Gideons International, and the board of directors of Northwestern State Bank in Orange City.
Most important to Lee was his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Vernell; five children and their spouses, Jim and JoAnn Woudstra of Sterling, Kansas; Jackie and Steve De Groot and Earl and Karen Woudstra, all of Orange City; Heidi and John Hoppe of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and Faye and Leon Hoogland of Grandville. Michigan: fifteen grandchildren; his mother, Hattie of Orange City; his brother, Alfred Woudstra of Orange City; and four sisters. Sally De Groot of Hull; Marilyn Kroeze of Orange City; Sylvia Veltkamp of Inwood and Joyce Vande Griend of Hull.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lavonne Kay, and his father.
