ROGER D. WICKENHAGEN
Thursday, May 9, 2002 Roger Wickenhagen, 49, of Des Moines, formerly of Orange City, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, Sioux City. The Rev. Fr. Thomas Begley of officiated. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery near Meriden. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City was in charge of arrangements.
Roger Dean was born Dec. 29, 1952, at Cherokee, the son of Estel R. and Blanche R. (Samp) Wickenhagen. He was raised on a farm in the Meriden-Cleghorn area until 1956, when his family moved into Cleghorn. In 1975, Roger graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City. He also graduated from the refrigeration division of Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. He lived much of his life in Orange City where he was married and later divorced. He also lived in Omaha, Neb. for a short time and had resided in Des Moines for the past two years.
Mr. Wickenhagen had been employed at Rod’s TV & Appliance in Orange City and was currently a service technician for CoinMach, based in Kansas City, Mo.
He was currently a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Des Moines and formerly a member of St Thomas Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City.
Roger was an avid ham radio operator. He enjoyed the outdoors especially camping, walking trails in Des Moines and biking.
Survivors include his two daughters, Emily and her husband Scott Winters of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Heidi Wickenhagen of Orange City; his mother, Blanche Wickenhagen of Cleghorn; a brother and his wife, Don and Joanne Wickenhagen of Hospers; two sisters, Ardyce Skaggs of Cleghorn, and Bonnie Van Veldhuizen of Montgomery Village, Md.; and nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father and several uncles and aunts.
