JERRY SKOGMAN
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Jerry Skogman, 69, of rural Hawarden died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Hawarden Community Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 am. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Hawarden, with the
Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Jerry Skogman was born May 13, 1933, in Union County, S.D., west of Hawarden, the son of Alfred and Madelyn (Vander Schoor) Skogman. He attended grade school in Chatsworth, Iowa, and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1951.
He married Norma Jean Patrick on Dec. 23, 1953, in Hawarden. He served in the U.S. Army from April 7, 1953, until his discharge on April 6, 1955.
He worked as a telegrapher with the C & NW Railroad from 1955 to 1957. He began farming in 1958. He was also employed as a crop hail adjuster for Farmers Mutual of Iowa for 18 years and as a real estate broker with Anderson Skogman Realty. He served in the West Sioux School Board from 1974 to 1980, and on the Washington Township Election Board for 29 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Akron and a past Master of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion of Akron, the Eagles Club and United Methodist Church of Hawarden.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; a daughter, Laurie Lee Bolluyt of Orange City; two granddaughters, Ashley Rae and Brittany Leigh Bolluyt, both of Orange City; a sister and her husband, Delores and Don Abbey of McCook, Neb.; and a brother and his wife, Chuck and Elaine Skogman of lreton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve.
