Louis Vander Laan was born July 15, 1913 in Boyden, Iowa to parents John and Stella (Vander Maaten) VanderLaan and entered into death on August 26, 1983 at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 11 days.
Louie moved to Maurice, Iowa as a young child, where he attended school and graduated from high school. He moved to Beresford, South Dakota in 1937 and on August 25, 1939 he was married to Henrietta Brink at Maurice, Iowa, The couple made their home in Beresford, SD., where Louie was employed in the Implement Business.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Beresford and had been an active member of the Beresford Fire Department and Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Among those who survive and who gratefully shared his life are his wife Henrietta; his son Louis Jr. and wife Carol and their children Sheri, Shirley and Todd; his daughter Mary Beth and husband Darryl Bertsch and their children Cindy and Marcia all of Roeland Park, Kansas; one sister Lorena (Mrs. Marion Ten Napel) of Sioux Center, Iowa; and three brothers, Marion, Clarence and Harold all of Orange City, Iowa.
