SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -Richard H. Van Zee, 78, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg, Iowa, with the Rev. Stephen Breen officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Richard H. Van Zee was born May 15, 1925, to Dick and Sarah (Te Paske) Van Zee, in Sanborn, Iowa. He received his education through the eighth grade in country schools.
He married Lucille Vanden Hull on Nov. 4, 1948. The couple had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with their children.
He lived in Middleburg, where he owned and operated his own trucking business, known as Van Zee Trucking, for 28 years.
He also farmed and raised livestock over the years. After their retirement, the couple moved to Sioux Center. He loved life. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed driving around with friends to look at crops and the countryside. For the past 13 years, he also worked part-time driving for Sioux Automation in Sioux Center. He was a member of Free Grace Reformed Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Van Zee of Sioux Center; three sons and their wives, Ronald and Thelma and Duane and Beverly, all of Sioux Center and Robert and Nancy of Orange City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Arta Behrens of Marshall, Minn.; a brother and his wife, Ervin and Dora Van Zee of Sioux Center; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Van Zee of Glenwood, Minn., Josephine Van Zee of Browerville, Minn.. and Doris Van Zee of Boonville, Ind.: and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Skoff: three brothers, Edward, Henry and Sylvester Van Zee; and four grandchildren.
