Jeanette Waanders was born on April 19, 1915.
She was daughter of Jelte and Kate (Zwier Klynsma) Smit. She attended Hospers Christian School. She attended nurses training at St Lukes in Sioux City. She worked at Sheldon and Worthington Hospitals and then Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver CO when she enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corp. She was trained as army nurse at Camp Breckinridge, KY. She served overseas as part of the 95th Evacuation Hospital during the World War II. She did duty in the midst of fierce fighting in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. God's hand of protection was with her even when the hospital ship she was on was bombed by the Germans while enroute to Italy. She was united in marriage to John Waanders on Dec. 27, 1946 at Hospers,IA. They were blessed with 2 children, Marvin and Kathy.
They lived in Hospers until 1993 when they moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. Her beloved husband John preceded her in death on January 25, 1997. She later moved to Denver, CO to be closer to her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are Marvin and his wife Alice of Denver, CO; Kathy and her husband David Miedema of Lakewood, CO. There are 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 sisters and 7 brothers
