Bertha Jennie was the daughter of William and Nellie Sinkey. She attended school in I reton and received additional training at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught in a country school near I reton. On June 14, 1940, she married Clarence M Peters at Ireton. They made their home in Orange City. During World War II. While Clarence was overseas, she worked at Van's Drug in Orange City. Clarence and Bertha had two children, Cheryl and Robert. After they were in school, she resumed working in the drug store, which became known as The Village Drug. There, she helped establish the Village Gift Store, which she managed for several years. She was the first full time employee of the Orange City office of Le Mars Federal Savings, which later became First Federal Bank. In 1980. she retired because of her health. Over the years, Bertha fought an on going battle against cancer, making many trips to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for treatment. She had a strong faith in Christ and often shared books or passages from the Bible that had given her strength. She was a good homemaker and was known for her excellent cooking skills. She and Clarence enjoyed their retirement years, spending a lot of time with family and friends at their home on Lake Okohoji, first at Gerk's Resort and then at Miller's Bay. She took great interest in the lives of her children, and Mr.and Mrs. Peters visited Europe several times, while family was living there. They were members of the American Reformed Church, where she enjoyed Women's Guild meetings when she was able to attend. Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Adnan Buxamusa of Orange City; her son, Robert of Junction City, Kansas: two grandchildren and their spouses. David and Kristine Cornelder of Pella: and Amy and Paul Gordiejew of Youngstown, Ohio: two sisters, Minnie Eisma of Ireton: and Johanna Riepma of Hull: and several nephews and nieces.
