Our people are grieved at the recent death of John Wolf. He was a good man.

(From the Sioux County Cemetery Index John Wolf was born 1826 and died 12 March 1890 and is buried in the St. Mary's Cemetery at Alton IA. From the Alton St. Mary's church book there is an account of the John Wolf family. John Wolf was born 1826. He lived in Jackson County, Iowa. He married Margaret Mandersheid, who was born at Cantor, Luxumburg in 1845. They moved to Remsen in 1881 and then to their own farm south of Alton. John Wolf died of Apolexy a his home in 1890. John was a veteran of the Civil War enrolling to duty at Bellevue IA. He mustered out with National Tennessee August 11 1865. Pvt. Wolf belonged to Co. L. 1865 Iowa Cavalry. John and Margaret Wolf had ten children: Magdalena (Biever); Elizabeth (Goedert), Ed, John, Pete, Christine (Thelen), Mary (Kramer) William; Anne (Strobean) and Marguerite (sister Amelia) Margaret Wolf died 1924.
