Funeral services will be held at Central Reformed Church here at 11 A.M., Wednesday, March 26, for Darrell Roetman, 41, Sioux Center's chief of police since January 1, 1969, who died at the Sioux Center Community Hospital early Monday, March 24, after a lengthy illness with cancer.

He had been in the local hospital for 6 1/2 weeks and at one time underwent major surgery in Rochester.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Wesley Kiel and burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery here under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.

Mr. Roetman was born at Hospers, Iowa, June 10, 1933, and grew to adulthood in that community. He was married to Bertha Van Veldhuizen on August 19, 1956, while stationed with a U. S. Army unit in Germany. The marriage ceremony was performed at Oftershiem.

Mr. Roetman had been in police work much of his adult life. He served on the police force at Sheldon from 1962 to 1964, was deputy sheriff of Sioux County, with residence in Orange City, from 1964 to January 1, 1969 when he accepted the position of chief on the local force.

He was a member of the Iowa Policeman's Association and the Iowa Chief of Police Association.

Besides his wife, Bertha, he is survived by three children, Lyle, Karen and Loren, all at home; two brothers, Dr. Leland Roetman of Rock Rapids and Robert Roetman of Hospers; and his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John H. Roetman at Hospers.

The six pallbearers Wednesday will represent four community police forces of Northwest Iowa-Sheldon, Orange City, Rock Rapids and Sioux Center.
