"Ben" was the son of Christian Schiebout and Lena (De Groot) Schiebout.. He was raised west of Sioux Center.
He married Nellie Maria Hulshof of Carmel on June 30, 1941, at Grand Rapids, Michigan, where they made their home. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. They then returned to Grand Rapids, where they lived until 1948, when they moved to Newkirk.
He operated the Newkirk Garage, when specialized in welding repairs. Since 1962, he was also involved in moving grain bins and small buildings. He had semi-retired.
He was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bernard and his wife, Clara of Hospers; and Marvin and his wife, Jan of Midland, Texas; daughter, Beverly and her husband, Harry Gill of Garland, Texas; six grandchilden, Aletha Westra, Jason, Tina, and Nathan Schiebout, and Michelle and David Gill; and eight brothers and sisters, Ferd of Greensboro, North Carolina, Anna Gesink of Wayland, Michigan, Joe of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Gary of Pella, Abe of Orange City, Chris and Conn, both of Grand Rapids, MI., and Dinah Ter Horst of Ireton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Herman.
