Charles E. Wassenaar of Arlington Heights, Ill., went to be with his Lord on February 22.
He was born in Canada on April l9, l924 and moved to Orange City where he graduated from high school as the valedictorian of his class in l942. After studying at Iowa State University, he became a United State Marine and served in China.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace, who died on January 27, 2005.
Charles is survived by his daughter Sandra Joy and husband Steven Chalberg of Park Ridge, Ill., and son Charles Mark Wassenaar and wife Nancy of Tennessee. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren remain.
Memorial services were conducted at Golf Road Baptist Church of Des Plaines, Ill., on Monday, Feb. 27. the services were led by son Mark, who with his wife Nancy ,served as missionaries to Taiwan with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Wassenaar family began attending the Crawford Avenue Baptist Church of Skokie, Ill., in l963 where the Rev. C. Orville Kool was pastor. All four professed faith in Jesus Christ, and followed their Lord in believer's baptism by immersion.
Charles became the owner president of Marblecast Products of Wheeling, Ill. The company was blessed in an unusual way, and Charles became a generous financial benefactor for many Christian causes, including Cornerstore Baptist Church of Orange City.
He will be remembered as a dedicated Christian who held numerous positions of responsibility in the congregations of which he was a member.
He continued to work until the day of his death; not that he had to, but because he wanted to continue supporting the Lord's work around the world.
