Hawarden - John W. Dekkers, 68, died Wednesday, June 28 at Yankton, South Dakota, of a heart attack while boating on Lewis and Clark Lake.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lebanon Christian Reformed Church, rural Sioux Center. The Rev. John Kroon officiated. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery under direction of the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mr. Dekkers was born July 22, 1909, in the Netherlands, and he came to the United states at age 10. He attended school at rural Hawarden.

He married Rose Kooima February 21, 1934, at Rock Valley. They farmed in Eagle Township near Hawarden until retiring several years ago.

Survivors include the widow; three son, Anthony and Warren, both of Hawarden, and Marvin of Tempe, Arizona; a daughter, Mrs. John B. (Maxine)Te Slaa of Hull; three brothers, Henry of Sioux Center and Peter and Joe, both of Hawarden; a sister Mrs. Henry (Elizabeth) Bonnema of Ireton, and 14 grandchildren.
