Roy Dowdey, 76, Hawarden, died May 11, at the Hawarden hospital.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M., May 14 at the Dow Funeral Home. The Rev. Arthur J. DeNeui, pastor of Hawarden First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Dowdey was born Dec. 29, 1899, near Hudson, S.D. He was employed for many years for the Northwestern and Illinois Central railroad companies.

Survivors include a son, Gerald of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Betty) Stywater of Sioux City and Mrs. John (Doris) Vander Helm of Hawarden; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Roy J. Dowdey, 76, were held Friday, May 14 at 1:30 p.m., at Dow Funeral Home. Rev. Arthur J. De Neui officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Robert Garrett, Loren Bryson, Anfin Knutsen, Melvin Hulleman, Don Schlueter and Harry Strong.

Mr. Dowdey died Tuesday, May 11, at the Hawarden hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born December 29, 1899 to Anna and Joseph Dowden (Dowdey). He worked on the Northwestern and Illinois Central Railroad for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one son, Gerald of San Jose, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. William (Betty) Stywater, Sioux City; Mrs. John (Doris) Vander Helm, Hawarden; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
