Sioux Center-Arthur Van Whye, 59, long time Sioux Center businessman, died Friday in the Sioux Center hospital after being stricken with a heart attack.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M., Monday in the First Christian Reformed Church at Sioux Center. The Rev. Peter Y. De Jong officiated and burial was in Hope Cemetery at Hull under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Doornink-Brunsting Post of the American Legion conducted the graveside rites.

Mr. Van Wyhe operated a gift shop, Gift's Galore, since 1973. Before that, he operated the Merit Motor Co. from 1960 to 1972 and operated a service station from 1948 until 1960.

He was born Oct. 2, 1916, near Hull. He married Virginia Smith of French Creek, W. Va., July 29, 1944 at Camp Van Dorn, Miss. He was in the Army from February, 1941 to August 1945, with service in the Aleutians and Germany. After the war, they lived in Kansas City, Mo., coming to Sioux Center in 1948. He was a member of Doornink-Brunsting Post, American Legion, at Sioux Center.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Evelyn) Nikkel of Maurice; three sons, Glenn and William, both of Iowa City, and Robert, at home; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jacob of Bradenton, Fla.; William of Hull, and Lee of Kansas City, and three sisters, Mrs. Bert (Jenny) Franken of Boyden, Mrs. Nick (Christine) Van Marel and Mrs. Gerrit Van Otterloo, both of Sheldon.
