Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Myra J. Weyer, 73, of Hawarden, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with the family present beginning at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Myra J. Weyer was born November 12, 1936 in Alcester, South Dakota, the daughter of Leo and Josephine (Woods) Doty. She attended school in Hawarden and married Bernie Weyer December 30, 1953 in Luverne, Minnesota. Together they made their home in Hawarden where she worked at the dairy. She later was employed at Otis Radio and then began as a cook at the West Sioux School. She continued to work as a cook at K-Products until her retirement. Bernie died April 19, 1998.
Myra was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Twig Benders Circle of the church. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hawarden as well as a women’s bowling team. She enjoyed golfing, reading, raising flowers, dancing, and cooking.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Sherry Olander and husband Joe of Sioux City, Karon Smith and husband Gary of Hudson, South Dakota, and Kay Moller and husband Dennis of Alcester; 3 sons, Butch and wife Sue of Hawarden, Mark and wife Pam of Hawarden, and Scott of Glendale, Arizona; a brother, Nick Doty and wife Joyce of Van Nuys, California; 2 sisters-in-law, Sharon Doty of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Sharon Doty of Palm Springs, California; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Kevin; 4 brothers, Louis, David, Ken, and Cliff; and sister, Priscilla Groethe and her husband Bud.
