Sioux Center-Jake Tamminga, 83, a retired Sioux Center retail grocer, died July 22 in a Rock Valley nursing home.
Services were held at 10:30 A.M., July 26 in the First Christian Reformed Church at Sioux Center. The Rev. Peter Y. De Jong officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Mr. Tamminga was born July 16, 1893, in The Netherlands. He came to America in 1911 and settled at Boyden. In 1920 he moved to Colton, S.D., where he married Gertrude Zuiderhoff Feb. 18, 1920. In 1924, he moved to Sioux Center where he lived the remainder of his life.
Mrs. Tamminga died Oct. 16, 1969, in Sioux Falls.
Survivors include six sons, William of Detroit, Mich., Albert, James and Joel, all of Grand Rapids, Mich., George of Cicero, Ill., and Louis of Jenison, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Gerrit (Jessie) De Boer of Rock Valley, Mrs. G. (Wilma) Van Leeuwen of Omaha and Mrs. William (Mildred) Dekker of Grand Rapids; two brothers, William of Holland, Mich. and Ray of Artesia, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Hans (Sadie) Faber of Sioux Center and Mrs. Bernard (Irene) Wobbema of Orange City; 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
