Sioux Center, Iowa-Spencer Roorda, 79, Sioux Center, died Aug. 21 at a Sioux Center hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M., Aug. 23 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Dr. Peter Y. DeJong officiated. Burial was in the Sheldon Cemetery under direction of the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mr. Roorda was born Jan. 11, 1897, in Sioux Center. He married Rowena Wynia July 30, 1919, in Rock Valley. The couple lived in Rock Valley and later Sheldon, where Mr. Roorda served on the City Council for several years. She died March 6, 1965.

On June 3, 1969, Mr. Roorda married Nellie Reekers in Olaha, Ore. They lived in Sheldon, Oloha and Sioux Center.

Mr. Roorda was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Noreen Broek of Sioux Center; a step-son, Lester Reekers of Santa Maria, Calif.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Robert (Myrna) Long of Oloha; a brother, Ray and a sister, Bessie, both of Sun City, Calif.; three grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
