Services were held Saturday at La-Canne Family Funeral Home in Windom with Pastor David Lightner officiating.
Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist.
Honorary bearers were LaRue's grandchildren: Stephanie Thompson, Jennifer Thompson, Clayton LeBrun, Mary Lynn LeBrun, Dianne LeBrun, Tom Mitchell, Jesse Mitchell, Ryan Gilbertson and Luke Gilbertson.
Full military honors, provided by Lake Wilson American Legion Post 285, followed services at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be at a later date.
LaRue Elton Wegner was born March 5, 1930, to William and Radah (Wilkinson) Wegner in Hawarden, Iowa. He was baptized into the Christian faith in Hawarden and later confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Center, Iowa.
He received his early education in country school before graduating from Hudson High School in 1948.
LaRue entered the U.S. Army, served in the Korean War and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After he was honorably discharged, LaRue returned to farming in the Hudson area.
In 1956, LaRue married Marlene Edna Winterfeld at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Center. They farmed in the Ireton, Iowa area until 1960, when they moved to a farm in Murray County. LaRue and Marlene farmed there until retiring in 2002. In 2004, they moved to Windom.
In addition to farming, LaRue also sold seed corn and Archer Oil. He also worked at various farming jobs, did custom combining and was a recognized wheat farmer by the state and nation.
For 14 years, LaRue and Marlene spent their winters in Florida. LaRue's leisure was spent with his children and grandchildren; traveling, which included visits to four continents; and fishing, baseball, woodworking, collecting coins, toy tractors and photography.
LaRue was a member of Chandler/Hadley Lutheran Church, Wheat Growers of Minnesota, a 52-year member of the American Legion and a 4-H adult leader in Murray County.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marlene Wegner of Windom; four daughters: Eve (Tom) LeBrun of Montgomery, RoxAnne (Jeff) Thompson of Alexandria, Sandra (Les) Mitchell of Rosemount and Denise (Jeff) Gilbertson of Windom; and 9 grandchildren.
