MAURICE--Marvin T. Smit, 53, Gretna, LA., a former Maurace resident, died Thursday in a Veterans Hospitial in New Orleans, LA., of long illness.
Services were at 10:30 a.m.Monday in the First Reformed Church at Maurice. The Rev.David Laman of Carmel officiated. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral home of Orange City.
Mr. Smit was born Feb. 10,1924 at Maurice. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the First Reformed Church at Maurice. At one time he operated a trucking service at Maurice.
Survivors include the Widow, Elvira; four daughters Vanessa Gay at home, Mrs. Bennett (Twila) Vaas of Sheldon, Mrs. Dan (Lynn) Grooters of Orange City, and Mrs. Charles (Lea) Knowles of Spencer; a son, Bruce Smith of Orange City; a sister, Mrs. Henry (Alma) Van Roekel of Montevideo, Minn.; a brother, Harold Smit of Sheldon, and five grandchildren.
