Mrs. Nellie Wassenaar, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 22, at l0:30 am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev.Timothy Ouwinga will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Nellie was born on March 30, 1917, at Orange City, the daughter of John J.and Trace (Koopmans) Brouwer. She was raised south of Orange City. On January 18, l940, she married Joubert Andrew Wassenaar at Orange City. Except for one year in Minnesota, they farmed in the Orange City area until l970, when they moved into Orange City. He passed away on October 4, l988, in Orange City, after more than 48 years of marriage.
Nellie was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the Faith, Hope and Love Society, and taught Sunday school classes. She enjoyed tatting and sewing and was an avid letter writer.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Bryan and Rachel Wassenaar, of Correctionvuille; two grandchildren, David and Anna Wassenaar, both of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Melvin and Marilyn Brouwer, of Orange City; and a special friend John Zevenbergen, of Baldwin, Wisconsin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Gertrude and Ed Bouw; and a brother and his wife, John and Nellie Brouwer.
