Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Henry H. "Hank" Huenink, 82, of Hawarden, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden with Rev. Tom Van Engen officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with the family present from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church.
The family prefers memorials to the Wheel Chair International Ministries at Hope Haven.
Henry H. "Hank" Huenink was born December 27, 1927 in Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Richard "Dick" and Hattie (Vander Ven) Huenink. He married Evelyn Mae Visser February 25, 1948 at Hawarden, Iowa. Together they farmed near Hawarden. Henry hauled fertilizer for Agriliance in Hawarden for 17 years and also had a hay moving business.
He was a member of the Hawarden Christian Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon and volunteered for 9 years with the Wheel Chair International Ministries at Hope Haven. He was a past member of the Hawarden Kiwanis Club. Henry enjoyed woodworking, camping, and playing cards.
Henry is survived by his wife, Evelyn; 4 children, James and wife Debbie of Hawarden, Kathy Robertson and husband Ben of Hawarden, Doreen and husband James Timmerman of George, Iowa, and Loreen Huenink of Hawarden; 12 grandchildren, Sue Lynn Counterman, Sherry Lerdal, Jennifer Millikan, Angela Foglesong, Dale Robertson, David Robertson, Taylor Timmerman, Katie Timmerman, and Kim Hemmelrick; step grandchildren, Ryan and Vanessa Steeneck, Aaron and Becca Steeneck, and Heidi Snedeker; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Nellie Huenink of Hawarden, Richard Huenink and Harold and Evelyn Huenink of Lincoln, Nebraska; 5 sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Van Sloten of Hawarden, Edna and Lloyd Prange and Pearl and Wilbur Weiskamp of Firth, Nebraska, Henrietta and Glenn Prange of Hickman, Nebraska and Dorothy Topp of Richmond, Kansas; sister-in-law, Grace Huenink of Hawarden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Sue Huenink; 2 brothers and their wives, Gerrit and Leona Huenink, Wilbur and Henrietta Huenink; and 2 brothers-in-law, Arnold Topp and Henry Van Sloten.
