Sheldon-Johanna "Jo" Den Hartog, 90, Sheldon, died Sunday, Nov. 12, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services were Thursday, Nov. l6, at United Methodist Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Jo Den Hartog, daughter of Henry P. and Anna Marie (Scholten) Langstraat, was born July 14, l9l6, in Newkirk. She received her education in country schools and graduated from Newkirk High School in l934. She married Lawrence Den Hartog on Nov. 28, l935 at her parents farm home near Newkirk. They lived in Waterloo, Clarion, Eagle Grove and Webster City, where he managed airports. She assisted him in fueling planes and taking many, many phone calls at the airport. They moved to Sheldon in l972. Mr. Den Hartog died Oct. 30, l997, in Sheldon. She remained in the family home and moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in l999. They moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in 2003.
She was a member of Sheldon United Methodist Church and the Hannah Circle of the church. She was a former member of the Merry-Go-Around Club and enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling.
Survivors include a brother, Herman Langstraat of Orange City; two sisters, Anna Rensink of Sheldon, and Nellie Langstraat of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Alice Langstraat of Hospers; and special friends, David and Edna Price and Randy and Sandy Brouwer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Den Hartog; two brothers, Peter Langstraat and Lester "Ted" Langstraat; and a sister, Harriet Zorgdrager.
Casket Bearers were Rod Langstraat, Brad Langstraat, Barry Whitsell, Dennis Van Der Maaten, Harlyn Kuyper and Craig Den Hartog.
