Obituary: Rock Valley, IA – Tena Ver Burg, 96, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Private burial at Richland Cemetery, Inwood. There will be time to visit with family following the service.

Tena Groeneweg was born September 15, 1913 to Joe and Coba (Jacobsma) Groeneweg and was raised in Sioux County, IA near Rock Valley. Tena was united in marriage to Bert Ver Burg on December 11, 1935. Together they farmed by Hills, MN for 14 years until moving to a farm by Inwood, IA. In 1965 they moved to Sunnyside, WA. Bert passed away in 1979 and Tena moved back to Rock Valley. She moved to the Valley Manor in June of 2006..

Tena is survived by her children: Robert (Hester) Ver Burg of Vancouver, WA and Joyce (Floyd) Davelaar of Rock Valley, IA; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Groen of Inwood, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert; brother, Paul Groeneweg; sisters: Adrianna Hoogendoorn and Pearl Groen..
