Grace Hibma, 90, of Maurice, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

Grace was born June 28, 1918, at Boyden, the daughter of Jake and Anna (Vander Vliet) Jans. She was raised in the Boyden and Hull area, where she attended country school.

On Dec. 6, 1944, she married Peter Hibma at Hull. They farmed at Maurice all their married life. He died Feb. 20, 2008, in Orange City, after more than 63 years of marriage.

Mrs. Hibma was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church. She enjoyed eating out, doing word search puzzles, and playing with all her little kids.

Survivors include her son, Dean Hibma, and a daughter and her husband, Minerva and Ken Small, all of Maurice; three step-granddaughters and their families, who live in the Iowa Great Lakes area; two sisters, Angeline Tiedeman, of Sibley and Harriet Vander Zwaag, of Sioux Center; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Jans, of Orange City and Arta Jans of Sioux Center; and extended famly members, Jim and Mary Hoogland, of Maurice, and their children; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Curt Vlietstra, and Jakob, Cade, and Bryce; Ron and Martha Hulshof, and Kendra Grace (deceased), Ethan, Tyrell, Cassidy, and Wyatt; Maranda and Vasyl Heytsi; Janna and Brian Aukes, and Jaren; Sveta and Mark Schubert, and Kyle; Jordan and Julie Hoogland, and Brooklyn; and Marlena and Ryan De Jong.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jake, Henry, and Marion Jans; and five sisters, Ida Vander Zwaag, Tillie Wolters, Jacoba Kleene, Henrietta Jans, and Carrie Mulder.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Edward Suffern and the Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot officiated. Interment followed at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Maranda (Hoogland) and Vasyl Heytsi, missionaries in the Ukraine.
