Anthony "Tony" Van Ravenswaay, Jr. was born on Thursday; October 1, 1942 in Sioux County, Iowa. He was the son of: Anthony & Gerdena (Vande Berg) Van Ravenswaay. He grew up on a farm southwest of Sioux Center and attended school through the 8th grade at Center Township. Tony worked in several occupations, beginning when he was a teenager as a station attendant at the Standard Station in Sioux Center; Sioux County, Iowa later as a carpet installer, a farmer and as a truck driver. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He has lived for the last number of years at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Tony will be remembered for his love of fun, his mischievous spirit and mostly for his fine children. Anthony "Tony" Van Ravenswaay, Jr., age 65, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa and formerly of Sioux Center, Iowa was very recently diagnosed with leukemia and passed away on Saturday; June 7, 2008 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls; Minnehaha County, South Dakota. Those left to mourn his passing are: His children: Rick (Terese) Van Ravenswaay, Jamie (Kim) Van Ravenswaay all of Sioux Center, Iowa. Paul (Kim) Van Ravenswaay of Orange City; Sioux County, Iowa. Jodi (Paul) Acres of Sioux City; Woodbury County, Iowa and Dan Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center, Iowa. His six grandchildren. His five sisters and brothers-in-law: Alice (Junior) Dooyema, Gert (Bill) Horstman all of Sioux Center, Iowa. Carol (Gerrit) Koedam of Mesa; Maricopa County, Arizona. Rena (John) Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Iowa. Mary (Ed) Zuschlag of Denver; Denver County, Colorado. His one brother and sister-in-law: Rich (Shirley) Van Ravenswaay of Montevideo; Chippewa County, Minnesota. His sister-in-law: Alma Warren of Sioux Center, Iowa. His twenty-nine nieces, nephews, many great and great-great nieces & nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Ralph and Harold. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday; June 10, 2008 at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday; June 11, 2008 beginning at: 10:00 a.m. at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday; June 11, 2008 at the New life Reformed Church of Sioux Center, Iowa with the Reverend Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Van Ravenswaay Family prefers memorials in Tony's name to go to the Iowa Veterans Home; 1301 Summit Street; Marshalltown, Iowa 50158. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
