MAURICE WORLD VETERAN PASSES AWAY

Adrian Mieras passed away Monday, Jan. 9th, at the Veteran's hospital in Des Moines at the age of forty-five years and ten months, after a lingering illness of about three years.

He was born on a farm one mile east of Maurice on March 9th, 1893, and grew to manhood in this community. He was an overseas World war veteran. For several years he farmed on the Peter Vande Poppe farm just east of town until three years ago when his health forced him to discontinue farming and at that time he entered the veterans hospital at Des Moines, where he was a patient until the time of his death. His father preceded him in death in 1906 and his mother in 1925.

Survivors include: five sister, Mrs. D. Melcher of Sioux City; Mrs. Lillian Kemp of Lewistown, Mont.; Mrs. Minnie Westra of Orange City; Mrs. Ada Ard and Mrs. Lucy Vande Poppe, both of Maurice, and two brothers, Peter of Orange City and Jake of Maurice.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of his sister, Mrs. P. Vande Poppe, with the Rev. H. Van Rualte officiating, and a military service was conducted at 2:00 from the American Reformed church. Burial was made at Sherman township cemetery.

Those from out-of-town attending the funeral included: Mrs. Lillian Kemp of Lewistown, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. D. Melcher, Mr. and Mrs. James Mieras and sons Louis and Eddie of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. John Van Beek of Hawarden; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Oldenkamp and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Oldenkamp of Rock Valley; Mrs. Fannie Van Wechel and daughters Anna and Minnie of Orange City; Mrs. Harm Kuhl and son John and daughter Lulu of Odebolt.
