Information from Cornelius Nootenboom's funeral card:
Cornelius "Cornie" Nootenboom, son of Arie and Grietye Niessink Nootenboom, was born November 12, 1903 in Orange City, Iowa. He died Wednesday, December 26, 1990 at the Janesville Nursing Home. He was 87 years old.
Cornie grew up in Orange City and Hospers, Iowa and attended school there. He married Dora Heemstra on November 26, 1925 in Hospers. They moved to Madelia in 1937 and farmed until 1949 when he began working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He retired after 18 years in 1968. Cornie was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening and horseshoes in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife Dora; sons Kenneth and wife Mary of Madelia, and Harold and wife Lola of Northfield; daughters Charlotte Miller of Mankato, LaVonne Olson and Norma (Mrs. Larry) Davis, all of Madelia; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren. Cornie was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Clifford and Richard, 5 grandchildren, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 1990 at the First Baptist Church in Madelia with Pastor Ron Hanson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Lorraine Sill and the vocalist was Robert Schroeder. Casketbearers were grandsons, Mark Martwick, Myron Martwick, William Nootenboom, Ronald Olson, Daniel Osborne and Jeffery Osborne. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
