Information from Dora (Heemstra) Nootenboom's funeral card:

Dora Heemstra was born May 6, 1904, the daughter of Joseph (actually Joe) and Clara Veldhuizen Heemstra in Hospers, Iowa. She grew up in Hospers and attended school there. Dora married Cornelius Nootenboom on November 26, 1925 in Hospers. They moved to a farm in rural Madelia, Minnesota in 1937. They farmed two different farms before moving to town December 1, 1949.

Dora was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church and White Cross. She moved to Janesville Nursing Home in 1988 and returned to Madelia and Luther Memorial Home following her husband's death.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Mary of Madelia, Harold and Lola of Northfield; three daughters, Charlotte Miller of Waseca, LaVonne Olson of Madelia, Norma Davis and husband Larry also of Madelia; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Jake of Primghar, Iowa; and 3 sisters, Cynthia DeJong of Jenison, Michigan, Frances Uittenbogaard of South Holland, Illinois, and Jen Spykerman of Holland, Michigan. Dora was preceded by her husband, 2 sons, Clifford and Richard, 5 grandchildren, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Dora died Thursday, September 12, 1991 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. She was 87 years old. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday September 16, 1991 at the First Baptist Church in Madelia with Pastor Ron Hanson officiating. The organist was Lorraine Sill and the vocalist was Robert Schroeder. Casketbearers were grandsons Mark Martwick, Myron Martwick, Ronald Olson, Daniel Osborne, Jeff Osborne, and Graig Peterson. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
