Honor Ireton Man On 91st Birthday

Mr. Martin Moeller resident here since 1885 was honored with a birthday courtesy and picnic at the City Park Sunday in honor of his 91st birthday. He is the oldest resident in Ireton. Children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren came to honor the aged man and to congratulate.

Mr. Moeller was born in Schleswig Holstein Germany and came to United States with members of his family in 1882 settling first in Luzerne Benton County, Iowa, and his first occupation was that of a farm laborer. In 1885 the family moved to Sioux county and settled in Ireton. He with a brother-in-law formed a partnership and went into the painting business. He followed that vocation for 12 years and then was married to Miss Tena Zimmerman and the couple moved to a farm north of Ireton. Though many years of industry and frugle living the couple purchased a parcel of farm land, and later added to this until he now owns 280 acres.

Four children, three sons. Richard, John and Peter and one daughter now Mrs. Edward Johnson of Ireton were born to this union, when death took the young mother Mr. Moeller continued farming with his children until they were all married and established homes of their own, then he retired to a home in Ireton in 1918. Two years later he was united in marriage with Mis. Lizzie Weber and together they have resided here through their decling years. During his lifetime, Mr. Moeller has given freely of his time to his church and community. Charter member; of the St. Paul's Lutheran church which he helped organize 70 years ago he has held many offices of trust.

He has served 10 years as Directors in the Farmers Co-Operative here, 10. years as Councilman of Ireton and five years as Director of the Local Bank. Today at 91, he says he is grateful, to the Creator of us all, for a sound mind and his continued good health. He assists Mrs. Moeller with the work of the home, garden, yard and flowers.

He has four children, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one step granddaughter with whom he enjoys to visit.
