Ricklefs, Herman and Catherine - Golden Wedding Anniversary

Ireton Couple Observe Fiftieth Anniversary

Mr, and Mrs. H. A. Ricklefs observed their golden wedding, anniversary, Monday, at their home in Ireton where open house was held during the afternoon.

Mr. Ricklefs was born in Hanover, Germany, April 20, 1875 and Mrs. Ricklefs was born in Oldenberg, Germany, Feb. 3, 1880. They came to the United States at an early age and were married Feb, 20, 1900, and have lived in and around Ireton all of these years with the exception of four years spent in Missouri. After farming for several years, Mr. Ricklefs also was a carpenter, a trade of his younger days which proved beneficial to his later years. They now live in Ireton at the residence once occupied by Mr. Ricklefs mother.

They are the parents of one son, Garrett of Ireton, and six daughters, Mrs. Amanda Dittmer, Mrs. Nora Vlotho, Mrs. Sophia Dittmer, all of Ireton and Mrs. Florence Kephart of Sun Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Rosena O'Meara of Sioux City and Mrs. Delores Hartsock of Deepwater, Mo. There are 15 grandchildren.

The children were all present for the occasion with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. Florence Kephart and family. Many relatives, friends and neighbors called and extended congratulations to the couple. The daughters served a buffet luncheon. The buffet table was beautifully decorated with golden candles and centerpiece a three tiered anniversary cake topped with golden bells and doves and a low bouquet of yellow jonquils and narcissus. During the course of the afternoon, the Rev. H. W. Krieger spoke a few words appropriate for the occasion based on the 21st chapter of Revelations and extended congratulations of the group present to the honored ones.

Outstanding among the guests present, was Mrs. Tillie Niehaus of Fairmont, Minn., who served as a bridesmaid at their wedding fifty years ago and was accompanied here by her son Arthur Niehaus. Other out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt, Mrs. Emilie Schulz, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Eilts, Mr, and Mrs. Will Treiber. Mr. Henry Dittmer and Miss Myrtle, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jannssen all of Le Mars, Mrs. C. L. Lehrman of Orange City, Mrs. Ruth Quiett of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Janvrin of Hawarden, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Uschkrat and Carma of Hubbard, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Ricklefs received gifts of money, and lovely gifts of gold. The children presented them with a novel anniversary tree containing $50 hidden in golden bells.
