Sioux County Herald of May 23, 1878
The Henrich Brothers who have purchased land just across the track from East orange; the northwest Quarter of 1, 94, 44, have erected themselves a temporary shanty and gone to breaking prairie. They intend to build themselves permanent buildings when the proper time arrives. The Messrs. Pierce & Lewis sold them the lands, and inform us that the Henrich brothers will be a valuable acquisition to that part of the county, as they have the means at their disposal and do much toward inducing others to settle in and around that neighborhood.

Sioux County Herald of Oct 21, 1880 THE STORM the article relates the ravages of a snow storm .
October 16th and 17th will long be remembered hence forth by our people. The storm of the dates above was the most severe ever know. Wednesday was really the commencement of the change of our good weather, when rain fell with a south wind. Thursday afternoon it commenced again, and changed into a sleet and snow, and by Friday morning the snow was drifting, Saturday and Sunday were no better. With out further ado we give the result of how our railroads and farmers fared. The down passenger train on the Sioux City and St. Paul road was compelled to stop at Sheldon, and the down freight at East Orange. The passenger west on the Chicago and St. Paul was compelled to lay over two miles east of Sanborn. The Milwaukee road is no open west as far as Canton. The St. Paul road is not yet open at the present writing. (The article goes on to relate many farmers and their losses of livestock…including Jacob Henrich lost 20 head of hogs. Tales of people stranded on the trains….all trains suspended….the magnitude of the storm was unprecedented in the memory of the oldest inhabitants. ) The full article can be found on the digital archives of Sioux county at https://siouxcounty.advantage-preservation.com

OBITUARY of Jacob Henrichs 1839- April 8, 1882
The submitter found this death article and although the name is spelled Henrichs in the article it coincides with the year date and the description of Jake Henrich his attributes.
Sioux County Herald of April 13, 1882.
Mr. Jacob Henrichs, a well to do carpenter and farmer, living near East Orange, committed suicide by hanging, on the 8th inst. He was a good mechanic and as far as we know, an exemplary man. It seems that two or three severe losses, caused by the demolition of his buildings by storms, filled him with terror for imaginary catastrophic events. The storm of Saturday morning evidently brought on another fit of metal derangement and cause him to commit the deed of a maniac. His family has the sympathy of many friends.
