The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added by Wilma J. Vande Berg. August Ronsick came to Ireton from Germany at the age of 15 and worked for his uncle Henry Kluter. Mrs. Ronsick, Katherine Zeigler, came to Ireton at the age of 18 and worked for farm families as a hired girl. They were married in the Lutheran Church at Ireton.
Their reason for coming to America was to get ahead in life, and they both saved towards this goal. They bought a farm SW of Ireton in Washington Twp. and the fourth generations of Ronsicks are now living on the farm which had been in the Ronsick family for over 84 years. They lived to celebrate their golden anniversary. The Harold Ronsicks live on the farm now.
Their children are: Lena (Mrs. Nick Westergard), Henry, Fred, Carl, Hilda (Mrs. Erick Falk), and Kathryn (Mrs. Ernest Eilers).
Mrs. Ronsick passed away in Apr. 1947 at the age of 77. Mr. Ronsick passed away June 1959 at the age of 89.

August John Ronsiek was born 28 Oct 1871 Bunde, Westphalen, Germany and died 11 Jun 1959 Hawarden IA. He was the son of Henry Ronsiek and Wilhelmina Klueter 1835. He married Katherine Helena Ziegler March 5, 1892 St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Ireton IA.
Katherine Helena Ziegler was born 18 Jul 1869 Muhlheim Rheinfressen, Germany died 28 Apr 1947 Hawarden IA. Parents were Frederick Ziegler born 5 Sep 1838 Heiben Rhienland Germany died Dec 20, 1895 Ireton IA; and Anna Margaretha Helena Muhlenbeck 1838-1913.

5.Hilda Gertrud Ronsiek born 1 Mar 1902 Sioux County IA died 26 Apr 1972 Alcester SD. She married Erik John Falk 1890-1969 they had three children with one named Alfred Falk 1925-1981.6. Katherine Barbara Emma Ronsiek born 21 May 1909 Washington Township Sioux County IA died 21 Aug 1930 Bricylyn MN. She married Ernest Edward Eilers 1905-1940. They had three children with two named Duane Eilers 1929-2009 and Keith Eilers 1931-1974.

Funeral services for August Ronsiek, 88, who died in Hawarden Hospital last Thursday after several months illness, were held Monday afternoon in Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend O.F. Pittack officiating. Interment was made in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery of Ireton, with the Bernard Funeral Home in charge.
August John Ronsiek, son of Henry and Wilhelmine Ronsiek, was born in Westphalen, Germany, on October 28, 1870, and became a member of the Lutheran Church in early infancy. At the age of 15, he immigrated to the United States and came to Ireton where he was employed on a farm operated by his uncle, Henry Kluter, and where he affiliated with the Lutheran Church.
On March 3, 1892, he married Katherine Helena Ziegler, who had also come to this country from Germany. During the next 28 years he was engaged in farming what is known as the home place, southeast of Hawarden. In 1920 he moved into the city of Hawarden and began to attend the services of the local Lutheran Church which he later joined.
Sometime later he moved to an acreage on the edge of the city. Here, in 1942, he and his wife observed their golden wedding anniversary. Five years later, on April 28, 1947, his wife died. About ten years ago, Mr. Ronsiek moved back into the city of Hawarden. For a number of years he had been afflicted with an asthmatic condition which grew steadily worse until two months ago, he was taken to the local hospital.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Katherine; a son, Carl, two daughters Lena Westergard and Katie Eilers, his parents and several brothers who lived in Germany, and one great-grandchild. vivors include two sons, Henry of Hawarden and Fred of Le Mars, one daughter, Hilda Falk of Hawarden; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.OBITUARY OF KATHERINE ZIEGLER MRS. Hawarden Independent of May 1, 1947 Resident Here 60 Years Dies
Funeral Services Held Yesterday Afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church; Interment at Ireton. Mrs. August Ronsiek, 77 a resident of Hawarden and vicinity for almost 60 years, died at the Hawarden hospital at 12:30 Sunday morning. Death was due to her advance years and a combination of ailments. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon with Rev. c. A. Burkhart in charge. Interment was at Ireton.
Helena Katherine Ziegler was born in Germany Jul 19, 1869 at the age of 18 years she, in the company with a sister came to the United State and lived near Ireton. She spent all her life in America around Ireton and Hawarden. She was married to August Ronsiek March 3, 1892. She spent eight years in Hawarden and for the past 18 or 19 years she lived on a small acreage in the southeast part of town. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include the widower; four children, Mrs. Nick Westergard, and Mrs. Eric Falk of Hawarden, Henry of Ireton and Fred of Craig; one brother Martin Ziegler of Sandstone MN and one sister Mrs. John Burley/Werley of Struble/ (Helena Mrs Henry Heeren), and 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and an infant son, Carl, and one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Eilers, who together with her husband was killed in an automobile accident in August of 1840. Mr. Ziegler was upwards of 75 years of age and had been a resident of this vicinity for some years Rev. H. Grimm preached the service.

Mrs. Frederick Ziegler, for a number of years a resident of this vicinity, died suddenly last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Busch, south of Alcester, S. D. The body was brought to Ireton for interment Tuesday and the funeral was held at the German Lutheran church, Rev Schmidt preaching the funeral sermon.
The deceased was born in Germany and was almost 75 years of age at the time of her death. Mr. and Mrs. Ziegler and children came to Ireton in 1891 and three years later Mr. Ziegler died. Since then she has made her home with her children. Her children still in this vicinity are Mrs. Henry Busch of Union county, Mrs. August Ronseak, (Ronsick) residing west of Ireton and Mrs. Helena - Henry Heeren of LeMars.
