Nanninga, Warren 1886-1973 & Madge Sidwell Family

This story was taken from page 440 of the Ireton Centennial Book (1882-1982). The story was transcribed for this BIOS by Beth De Leeuw of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes were added.

Warren Nanninga was born Feb. 19, 1886 in Sioux Co., Washington Twp. He was the youngest son of Fred Nanninga. He farmed in the Ireton and Hawarden area.

Warren Nanninga married Madge Sidwell, Craig, Ia. in 1917. Her father operated the general merchandise and grocery store there. Madge graduated from Hawarden High School and taught in the upper grades at Craig.
Research Note: 1900 census listed Madge Sidwell born Jan 1895 Washington Pocahontas IA. the daughter of William Sidwell 23 and Mattie J. Sidwell 26.

1. Beulah Elaine (Mrs. Lloyd Simmons) Ireton. They have 3 children.
Obit - BEULAH E. SIMONS
IRETON, Iowa — Beulah E. Simons, 82, of Ireton died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 am. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Ireton, with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m, followed by visitation with the family at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.
Beulah E. Simons was born Dec.30, 1919, in Ireton. the daughter of Warren and Madge. (Sidwell) Nanninga. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1937 and attended Western Union College in Le Mars, Iowa, studying education. She taught school in Le Mars and in rural schools in the Ireton area.
She married Lloyd Simons on Sept. 8, 1946, in Ireton. The couple owned and operated the family farm in Reading Township. They retired to Ireton in 1988. Lloyd died June 13, 2000. Beulah was a life long member of Ireton United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school, was active in church and community affairs, and was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed crafts, travel and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Loren and Carolyn of Ireton, Lynn and Andrea of Aubrey, Texas, and Duane and Jane of Sioux Falls, S.D.: seven grandchildren, Theresa, Cheryl and Mark of Ireton, Sara and Jana of Aubrey, Texas, and Brian and Scott of Sioux Falls; a brother and his wife, Wallace and Josephine Nanninga of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister and her husband, Marilyn and Richard Lloyd of Burlington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

2. William Wallace Nanninga born 15 Feb 1921 IA died 11 Nov 2016 at -Bellevue, Wa., WWII; Army, serving in France and Germany. Since graduation from Iowa State in 1949, he has been employed as designer engineer for the Boeing Aircraft Co. of Seattle, Washington. He married Josephine Marcella Gronert, Creston, Ia. they have 3 children.

3. Marilyn Jane Nanninga born 20 Jan 1931 died 23 Dec 2021 Burlington IA (Mrs. Richard Lloyd) Burlington, Ia.; a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College; former teacher; active in music, especially piano; and presently teaches privately. They have 4 children. Margaret Wozniak, Rosemary Cameron, David Lloyd and Charles Lloyd.

OBITUARY OF WARREN HENRY NANNINGA
Warren H. Nanninga,77, of Ireton died at a Le Mars nursing home on Thursday, Oct. 25 after long illness. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Ireton Methodist Church with Rev. Herbert Gould officiating. Burial services were held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton under the direction of Dow Funeral Home.
Warren, son of Fred and Hannah Nanninga, was born on Feb. 19, 1896 at Ireton. He was baptized and confirmed in his youth at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ireton and later became a member of thew Methodist Church. Nanninga farmed in the Ireton area and for 20 years he served as manager of the Swanson Apartment in Sioux City. He returned to live in Ireton in 1971. He was married to Madge Sidwell Sept. 5, 1917 in Craig.
Survivors include the widow; one son William Wallace of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters; Mrs. Lloyd (Beulah) Simons of Ireton and Mrs. Richard (Marilyn)Lloyd of Burlington, Iowa; one sister Mrs. Tena Cornish of Hawarden; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friend

OBITUARY OF MADGE NANNINGA
Sioux Center News April 30, 1986
Madge Nanninga, 91, of Ireton died Wednesday, April 23, in a hospital in Hawarden.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the United Methodist Church in Ireton. The Rev. Paul Hansen officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held in the Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.
Mrs. Nanninga, the former Madge Sidwell, was born January 10, 1895 at Havelock. She graduated from Hawarden High School and taught school at Craig. She married Warren Nanninga September 5, 1917, at Craig. The couple made their home in the Ireton and Hawarden areas. He died October 25, 1973. Mrs. Nanninga was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, William Wallace of Bellevue, Washington; two daughters, Marilyn Lloyd of Burlington and Beulah Simons of Ireton; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
