John Frederick Heuer, oldest son of Fred and Catherine (Schlumbohm) Heuer, was born Dec. 24, 1884, in Sioux Co., Eagle Twp., Sec. #3, on the farm where he spent practically all of his life. His parents were both born in Hanover, Germany. His father was twenty-one when he came to the U.S. in 1871. His mother, Catherine, immigrated to Gladbrook, Ia. in her early girlhood.
Louise Fredericka Miller, oldest daughter of Louis and Rita (Gayer) Miller was born Sept. 23, 1888 in Sioux Co., Garfield Twp. Louise’s father was born at Elgin, Ia. and her mother in Germany. She attended rural school in Garfield Twp. and high school in Rock Valley. She was a teacher for a number of years before her marriage.
John and Louise were married July 8, 1914 at her parents’ farm near Rock Valley. They were confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and members of the Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center.
For a time, they lived with John’s parents until the parents moved to another farm about a mile and a half east of the home place. John and Louise were the second generation to live at the Heuer home place. John was considered a prominent and successful farmer in Eagle Twp. His father’s chief business was also farming.
Louise was a member of the Rural Study Club and the Hawarden Woman’s Club. She took an active part in the garden department of this organization, and was widely known for her hobby, growing numerous kinds of flowers in her gardens, both on the farm and later when she moved to Hawarden. She was awarded many honors for her flower arrangements, as entries in flower shows, and many were used for wedding arrangements.
Seven children were born to this union: Edwin, Rose (Mrs. Densel Roberts), Harold, Clarence, Viola (Mrs. Dwayne Grau), Lois (Mrs. Benton Boyer), and John Jr., who was killed in an auto accident May 1, 1956.
John Heuer passed away Oct. 23, 1944 after a terminal illness. His wife, Louise, and family remained living on the farm, until the marriage of her son, Clarence to Phyllis Johnson, Feb. 14, 1946.
In Apr. of 1946 Louise purchased a home in Hawarden, where she moved along with her children Lois and John Jr. She transferred her church membership at that time to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden.
In the summer of 1952, Louise became seriously ill and passed away two months later on Aug. 21, 1952. Both John and Louise are buried in the church cemetery at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center.

John Heuer, 25, Victim in Road Accident Near Here
John Heuer, 25, who farmed near here, was killed late Tuesday afternoon when the pickup truck in which he was riding was in collision with another vehicle at a country road intersection, six miles east and one mile north of Hawarden. A. D. Van Etten, Sioux county coroner, said Heuer died almost instantly after suffering a fractured skull. There were no witnesses to the crash, it was reported. Mrs. Hairley Brown of Ireton was the driver of the other car. Her grandson, Karl Groen, was a passenger in her car at the time of the accident. Neither Mrs. Brown nor young Groen were injured, it was reported Heuer was thrown from truck. Patrolman Lawrence Haze of the Iowa Highway Patrol at Sheldon said Mr. Heuer's vehicle was knocked off the road and into the ditch but did not overturn. The driver was thrown in front of the vehicle, however, it was possible that rain was falling and clouding of windshields of the cars and could have contributed to the crash, Patrolman Haze was assisted in the investigation by Dykstra, Sioux county sheriff and Dr. Van Etten.
Mr. Heuer was born August 16, 1930, on a farm near Hawarden. He was graduated from Hawarden high school and entered the Service shortly afterward. He was the father of 3. He married Ruth Harris of Akron, while in the service.
